A Message From Our Chair - August 2024
Fellow Democrats,
With less than 100 days to go, we can safely say this is already one of the most consequential elections we have experienced. In a nearly unprecedented act, President Biden has withdrawn from the election after a successful primary season. California’s native daughter, Vice President Kamala Harris, is now poised to become the nation’s first woman and first Asian American President. People are excited about the campaign and eager to get to work in the final weeks.
We face an opponent who has shunned time-honored American values, openly disparaged democracy and the rule of law, incited violence against vulnerable populations, and was convicted of 34 felony counts for covering up an affair in order to win the 2016 election. Project 2025, the detailed plan concocted by several former members of his administration, is nothing less than a right-wing authoritarian dagger aimed at the heart of our nation. We must prevail in this election, and with your help we shall do so.
Before I close, I want to acknowledge the dedicated service of our President. Joseph Biden has served this nation faithfully and honorably for more than five decades. In 2021, he took office facing nearly unprecedented circumstances: a public health crisis, an economy in distress, and an attempted insurrection that tested the limits of our constitutional order. Under President Biden’s stewardship, the economy has rebounded; unprecedented investments have been made to rebuild our manufacturing base, modernize infrastructure, and tackle the climate crisis; and America has rebuilt its standing around the world. It can be said without equivocation that this has been one of the most consequential presidential terms in modern history. As Solano County Democrats, we have been honored to support President Biden throughout his time in office, and we wish him a long and happy retirement after his term ends next year.
Let’s honor President Biden’s legacy by electing his chosen successor Vice President Kamala Harris to the Oval Office and Democrats up and down the ballot. Together, we can continue to follow the path he has blazed, and continue the quest for a brighter, better, more hopeful America for all of us. Thank you for all that you do.
Sincerely,
Don Lowrie
